This tour may involve extensive walking at times, often on cobblestone streets or uneven terrains, and may require navigating stairs or steep inclines at historical sites. - Day 1 - Monday, Sept. 16 – Fly from Baton Rouge (or other home airports) for overnight flight to Reykjavik.
Day 2 - Tuesday, Sept 17- Reykjavik - Morning arrival. From the airport, we drive to see the spectacular Blue Lagoon, where we have a chance to enjoy soaking in the mineral-rich water while we look for the Northern Lights overhead. Afternoon arrival in Reykjavik and our hotel.
Day 3 - Wednesday, Sept 18 - Vik – Tour the renowned Golden Circle including a visit to the Geysir Hot Springs area, where Strokkur erupts at 5-10 minute intervals. We also visited Gullfoss (Golden Falls) and Thingvellir National Park, a World Heritage Site. On through the country landscapes of South Iceland to the small town of Vik.
Day 4 - Thursday, Sept. 19 - Vik– Journey east along the southern shore to picturesque Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, which has developed as icebergs break up and melt. Seals gather in large numbers at the mouth of the lagoon to catch fish during the winter. Visit breathtaking Skaftafell National Park. Another night in Vik.
Day 5 - Friday, Sept . 20 - Reykjavik – We return to Reykjavik along the southern coast where we will see the waterfalls of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss, as well as glaciers and volcanoes of Myrdalsjokull Katla and Eyjafjallajökull.
Day 6 - Saturday, Sept. 21 - Reykjavik - A free day for independent activities. Visit the city’s beautiful parks or enjoy visiting some of its many museums and galleries. Enjoy the experience of swimming in geothermal swimming pools or enjoy the Icelandic cuisine from some of the many restaurants in the area.
Day 7 - Sunday, Sept 22- This morning we enjoy a short city tour of Reykjavik before we fly back to the United States where we will overnight (airport destination to be determined).
Day 8 - Monday. Sept 23 - This morning we fly home, arriving with some incredible memories and stories to tell!
