Day 1 - Tuesday, April 5 -San Antonio – Early morning departure from Zachary and Baton Rouge. Take I-10 to San Antonio, with pickups along the way. Tonight, enjoy the Riverwalk and an included boat ride. Hotel near Riverwalk.
Day 2 - Wednesday, April 6 - Fredericksburg – This morning we tour the Alamo, the historic Spanish mission and fortress compound that was the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. This afternoon, we enjoy a drive through the “Hill Country” to historic Fredericksburg for two nights. Day 3 - Thursday, April 7 - Fredericksburg – Morning countryside visit includes view of Enchanted Rock, a massive dome of solid pink granite, the scenic Willow City Drive. Mid-day in Fredericksburg for lunch, sightseeing and shopping. Afternoon visit to the nation’s largest working wildflower farm. We visit Luckenbach, a tiny place known world-wide. Day 4 - Friday, April 8 - Austin – Morning in Fredericksburg for shopping and a visit to their great World War II museum. Afternoon visit to the LBJ Ranch (President Lyndon Johnson) with a visit to the Texas Whitehouse. Tonight we enjoy an included dinner at the famous Salt Lick BBQ – nothing like it. Day 5 - Saturday, April 9 - Schulenburg - La Grange - Home - We enjoy a guided tour of the historic Texas Painted Churches built in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the Schulenburg, Texas area where German and Czech immigrants settled to start a new life. With ordinary exteriors, the interiors of these churches are magnificent masterpieces featuring Old World beauty. Then we head towards home, arriving in Zachary late evening. |
