Day 1, Friday, Oct. 20 –Winnipeg, Manitoba - Our Churchill polar bear tour begins in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba. Once a center of fur trade and a Canadian Pacific Railway boomtown, Winnipeg today is a cultural and commercial center on the eastern edge of Canada's vast prairies. We transfer to our hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner this evening. (D)
Day 2, Saturday, Oct. 21 - Winnipeg & Churchill - Today we fly by chartered plane to Churchill this morning. This hospitable frontier town, originally a Hudson's Bay Company fur trading post, is our base for adventure. Tonight we enjoy an evening presentation on polar bears and the northern environment. (B, L, D) Day 3, Sunday, Oct. 22 – Polar Bear Viewing - Ride in style in a custom-built Polar Rover designed for easy viewing and plenty of space to move about as we look for polar bears, who congregate here each fall as they wait for Hudson Bay to freeze and start the winter seal-hunting season. Tonight we'll gather for dinner and enjoy more presentations on wildlife and local culture. (B, L, D) Day 4, Monday, Oct. 23 - Polar Bear Viewing - We have another incredible day of polar bear viewing today. Maybe we'll see mothers with cubs, young males play-fighting, or a lone bear ambling along the silent tundra. More conversation this evening at dinner on what we've seen and learned about these amazing animals. (B, L, D) Day 5, Tuesday, Oct. 24 –Churchill/Evening on the Tundra - Today, we enjoy touring historic Churchill and along the way, on a drive to Cape Merry, we may spy a few Arctic fox and Arctic hare. This evening we'll head out to the tundra for night-time bear viewing and dinner aboard the Polar Rover. If the skies are clear, we may even get to experience the northern lights and see the sky lit up in radiant hues of color before the end of the night. (B, L, D) Day 6, Wednesday, Oct. 25- Dog Sledding & Winnipeg - This morning, we meet a local musher and his team of lively dogs, before we take turns riding behind them on an exhilarating trot through the boreal forest. Enjoy a farewell lunch together before we fly back to Winnipeg , where a final reception concludes our adventure together. (B, L, D) Day 7, Home - After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our flights home, and incredible stories to share of our adventure with the Polar Bears. (B) |
