Day 1, Wednesday, July 20 – Chattanooga – Motor coach from Zachary and Baton Rouge, Hammond, Jackson, MS, Birmingham to Chattanooga for overnight.
Day 2, Thursday, July 21 –Hagerstown, Maryland – Travel through beautiful eastern Tennessee and the scenic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Overnight in Hagerstown. Day 3, Friday, July 22 – Valley Forge area – By mid-morning we are in Gettysburg. Visit Battlefield Visitors Center. Enjoy the restored cyclorama “The Battle of Gettysburg”, the museum and the film “A New Birth of Freedom” and the bookstore and gift shop. Visit the Valley Forge National Historical Park – the site of the 6month winter / spring encampment by the Continental Army and General George Washington – December, 1777 to June, 1778. See the grounds, buildings and visitor center. Day 4, Saturday, July 23 – Seaford, Delaware – Today we tour Philadelphia with a visit to the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed. Afternoon drive through New Jersey and the length of Delaware, the first state to ratify the constitution. Journey through Wilmington, Delaware’s largest city and Dover, the state capital. Day 5, Sunday, July 24 – Chesapeake, Virginia – Morning drive through the 17-mile Chesapeake Bay Tunnel and bridge to Norfolk, VA area. This afternoon at 2:00 p.m. we board the Miss Hampton II for a 3-hour narrated cruise of Hampton Roads Harbor and Chesapeake Bay. See the world’s largest naval installation – Norfolk Naval Base. Day 6, Monday, July 25 – Nags Head, North Carolina – A day of Outer Banks sightseeing is on the agenda. Begin with the Wright Brothers’ Memorial at Kitty Hawk. We explore the museum and workshop. Marvel at Kill Devil Hills, a vast range of enormous sand dunes. After lunch we continue down the Outer Banks along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore and see the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse (tallest operating in North America at 210 feet). Overnight on the Outer Banks. Day 7, Tuesday, July 26 – Durham area, North Carolina – Morning for more exploring and lunch on your own on the Outer Banks. Back to the mainland and west to Durham. Day 8 – Wednesday, July 27 - Auburn, Alabama – We drive through Greensboro, Charlotte and Atlanta to Auburn for overnight. Day 9 – Thursday, July 28 – Home – Brief morning tour of Priester Pecans and then on home. |
