- Day 1 - Wednesday, October 1- Tunica, MS –Early morning departure from Zachary and Baton Rouge with pickups along the way to Jackson, MS, where we stop at The Mississippi Museum of History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, two places where Mississippians tell their own stories of the state’s rich and complex history. It’s presented as never before with eye-popping artifacts, photographs, videos, and interactive exhibits. Next we enjoy an included lunch at Cock of the Walk, a rustic eatery known for its Southern-style catfish, fried chicken, and charming riverboat-themed decor. This afternoon, we arrive in Tunica, where we’ll stop at the Gateway to the Blues Museum to learn the remarkable story of how the Blues was born and the role Tunica and the Delta played in building the genre’s legacy. Later, we check into our Casino Hotel for the night. Enjoy free time this evening for gaming or entertainment. (L)
Day 2 - Thursday, October 2 - Greenwood, MS- This morning, we spend some time in the region known as “the land where the blues began.” Clarksdale, MS is where many now-legendary musical artists were born and raised, such as Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Son House, Ike Turner, Sam Cooke and more. We visit the Delta Blues Museum, an internationally acclaimed museum that showcases the history and significance of the Blues in this region. Enjoy an included lunch. This afternoon, we stop in Cleveland at the Grammy Museum and Dockery Farms, a Mississippi Blues Trail stop. Learn how the blues were inspired by African Americans who worked at Dockery. Tonight, we check into the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, located in the Mississippi Delta. Enjoy dinner on your own. (B, L)
Day 3 - Friday, October 3 - Greenwood, MS- This morning, we visit the Museum of the Mississippi Delta, an outstanding regional museum that will let us travel through centuries of Delta history and culture. Then visit the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center. Lunch is included today. This afternoon we take a guided tour along the Mississippi Blues Trail, including Money Road. We end our day at the Viking Cooking School, where we enjoy a cooking demonstration which will also be our dinner. Overnight in Greenwood. (B, L, D)
Day 4- Saturday, October 4 - Vicksburg, MS - This morning, we depart for Vicksburg for a tour of the Catfish Row Museum and a cooking demonstration. Enjoy hearing about Vicksburg’s vibrant food heritage and regional culinary traditions from a local chef and enjoy a nice lunch. We arrive home later this afternoon. Thanks for traveling with us!
