Day 1 – Tuesday, Oct. 10- Depart Baton Rouge for overnight flight to Italy.
Day 2 - Wednesday, Oct. 11 - Milan - Morning arrival in Milan. Enjoy a guided city tour of this incredible city, the richest in Italy. This afternoon, we check into our hotel for two nights. This evening is at your leisure. Overnight in Milan. Day 3 - Thursday, Oct. 12 - Milan - Today, we enjoy a day trip to Bellagio, the Pearl of Lake Como, known for its picturesque streets and beautiful villas. Wander the cobblestoned streets and walking paths leading through the town, visit the Basilica of San Giacomo, built before the 12th century, or stop and eat or shop among the many restaurants and shops. Overnight in Milan. (B) Day 4 - Friday, Oct. 13 - Venice - This morning we visit the Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to the Last Supper of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most famous paintings in the world. Afterwards, we’ll make our way south to Venice by motor coach. When we reach the city, we’ll transfer to our hotel by water taxi - quite an experience, letting us see the Venice area from the water. This evening is at your leisure to start exploring this beautiful city. Overnight in Venice. (B) Day 5 - Saturday, Oct. 14 - Venice – Morning water taxi down the Grand Canal through the heart of Venice, an unbelievable sight. Then a guided tour of St. Mark’s Square. We visit St. Mark’s Basilica and lavish Doges’ Palace. See the Clock Tower and the Bridge of Sighs. Afternoon free for independent activities such as exploring, shopping and museum visits. Perhaps an optional excursion to the colorful island of Burano, or an optional gondola ride tonight. (B) Day 6 - Sunday, Oct. 15 - Florence – Morning journey by motorcoach to Florence, the capital of Tuscany. On our journey we cross the lush plains of the mighty River Po and cross the wooded Apennine Mountains. Enjoy a visit to Pisa and take pictures of the amazing Leaning Tower, 180-feet high and 12-feet perpendicular. Later, we stop at the Academy of Fine Arts to visit Michelangelo’s celebrated “David.” Two nights in Florence, cradle of Renaissance art and architecture. (B) Day 7 - Monday, Oct. 16 - Florence – Morning guided tour with a visit to the magnificent Cathedral. Admire Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery’s heavy bronze “Gate of Paradise” and sculpture-studded Signoria Square. Afternoon is time to shop for Florentine leather goods and gold jewelry, or explore the high flea market or more museums. (B) Day 8 - Tuesday, Oct. 17 - Rome – Morning journey to beautiful Tuscan countryside to the lovely village of Cortona for a mid-day visit. This walled town has changed little since the Renaissance period. This town is the setting for the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Brief visit to Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis. Visit the Basilica. Mid-afternoon departure by motor coach to Rome, our home for two nights. (B) Day 9 - Wednesday, Oct. 18 - Rome – A full day of guided sightseeing. We visit the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, world famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgment. We then visit St. Peter’s Basilica and Square. We cross the Tiber River and visit the famous Colosseum and the nearby Roman Forum, seat of Roman government 2,000 years ago. We visit the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. (B) Day 10 - Thursday, Oct. 19 - Sorrento – Today we make our way south to Sorrento and along the way, we stop for a tour in Pompei, a once thriving Roman city that was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Overnight in Sorrento. (B, D) Day 11 - Friday, Oct. 20 - Sorrento - Today, we explore Positano and the Amalfi coast, a well-known holiday destination. Enjoy an olive oil tasting. Overnight in Sorrento. (B, D) Day 12 - Saturday, Oct. 21- Home – Morning motor coach transfer to the airport in Naples. We fly home today, arriving the same day with many wonderful memories. (B) |
