Day 1, Saturday, Feb 18 – Lake City, FL – Early morning departure from Zachary and Baton Rouge. Pick-ups along I-12. Drive through Mobile to Lake City for overnight stay.
Day 2, Sunday, Feb 19 - Titusville, FL – Morning guided tour of historic St. Augustine, the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in the U.S. Visit the Spanish fortress, the oldest masonry fort in the U.S., plus much more. Down the Atlantic coast to Titusville for overnight. (B) Day 3, Monday, Feb 20 - Homestead, FL – Today we visit the Kennedy Space Center, the launch site for the space shuttle. Enjoy a bus tour of the complex and the Visitor's Center. Overnight in Homestead, Florida's fruit and vegetable center. (B) Day 4, Tuesday, Feb 21 - Key West, FL – Drive down the beautiful Florida Keys to Key West, our home for two nights. Our travel along this “broken necklace” chain of islands is 125 miles, created by 1700 islands linked by 40 bridges, each island another charm on the necklace. Late this afternoon we gather with others at Mallory Square to witness one of the most beautiful sunsets in the western hemisphere. Enjoy street entertainers, perhaps a visit to Margaritaville or Sloppy Joe's for some of Key West's unique cuisine (conch chowder, conch fritters or Key Lime Pie). (B) Day 5, Wednesday, Feb 22 – Key West – Morning Sightseeing on the famous Conch Tour Train which takes us on a 14-mile tour through Old Town & Key West with interesting narration about the area's history. Includes Duval Street, waterfront & Southernmost Point. Your afternoon is free for shopping and independent activities. Perhaps a visit to Hemingway's house and gardens and Harry S. Truman's "Little White House". Later this afternoon, we experience another beautiful sunset at Mallory Square. (B) Day 6, Thursday, Feb 23- Sarasota, FL - Today's focus is the Florida Everglades. Journey along the scenic Tamiami Trail. We enjoy an airboat excursion in the Everglades. Visit the Big Cypress Visitor Center, America's first national preserve which is a habitat for alligators, birds and panthers. (B) Day 7, Friday, Feb 24 – Tallahassee, FL – We depart Sarasota with a stop in Tampa to visit the Manatee Viewing Center and see these gentle mammals. Continue our journey to Florida's capital city, Tallahassee for overnight. (B) Day 8, Saturday, Feb 25 – Home – On our way home, we visit the National Museum of Naval Aviation (if open - schedule times sometimes vary.) (B) |
