- Day 1 - Friday, April 5 - Sacramento – All Aboard! Today you arrive in Sacramento, where a shuttle will transfer you from the airport to the hotel. Enjoy an included welcome dinner in the park. We board the River Fox Train, Enjoy a selection of wine and music as we travel through Yolo Country. Overnight in Sacramento.
Day 2 - Saturday, April 6 - Ukiah, CA – California Railroad Museum - This morning enjoy a tour of colorful Sacramento, CA’s capitol. Your first stop is the 1874 vintage Capitol Building, recently restored to it’s turn of the century splendor. Next we visit the Old Sacramento Historic District, where you can step back in time to the era of the Pony Express, the 49’ers and the arrival of the Central Pacific Railroad. You’ll have time to explore at leisure before continuing to the California State Railroad Museum. Then head over to the Old Sacramento Waterfront, explore and enjoy lunch on your own. We will then depart Sacramento through central California vineyards on our way to Ukiah and our overnight stay.
Day 3 - Sunday, April 7 - Healdsburg - Sonoma Wine Country – We depart Ukiah this morning and head deep into the Redwood Country. This morning we board the Skunk Train. The historic train chugs through tunnels, over bridges, and along the coastal “Redwood Route”. We’ll journey aboard the train before heading south into the heart of California’s wine country where we will stop for a local wine tasting. Overnight in Healdsburg, where there are many wine tasting rooms and great shopping.
Day 4 - Monday, April 8 - San Francisco, CA – Napa Valley Wine Train - This morning we travel east to California’s beautiful Napa Wine Country and the Napa Valley Wine Train - enjoy a multiple-course lunch through the lush Napa Valley. Explore the train and visit the kitchen cars to see the chefs in action. After this incredible trip through Napa Valley, we’re off to San Francisco. You will see the Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, the Presidio and Sausalito. Tonight enjoy dinner on your own at one of the many terrific restaurants San Francisco has to offer.
Day 5 - Tuesday, April 9 - Roaring Camp Railroad – Have the morning free to explore some more of San Francisco before we start our travels south toward the scenic Santa Cruz mountains. You’ll have a chance to marvel at the towering redwood trees first-hand as you visit Roaring Camp, where we will board the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Railroad. This railway boasts the steepest railroad grades in the United States - so be ready for some excitement as well as breathtaking views. We travel towards the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean on your way to the beautiful “17 Mile Drive” and stop at Carmel-by-the-Sea and Cannery Row, made famous by John Steinbeck.
Day 6 - Wednesday, April 10 - Yosemite National Park – Today we are on our way on board the Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad, where we head into the Yosemite National Park. The Valley Tram will take you on a tour of Yosemite “Jewel of the Sierra”, where you will see El Capitan, towering 7,569 feet above the Merced River, Yosemite Falls, the 2nd largest waterfall in the world and more. After exploring the park for the afternoon, our accommodations await just outside the park.
Day 7 - Thursday, April 11 - Sacramento, CA – This morning we arrive in Jamestown, CA for a tour of Railtown 1897 State Historic Park. Known as “The Movie Railroad”, its historic locomotives and cars have starred in hundreds of film and TV productions. A stop at the Turkovich Farms and Winery. The family produces quality small-lot wines. After a tour of the grounds and samples of the produce, our final dinner is a farm-to-table experience.
Day 8 - Friday, April 12 - Departure – This morning we depart for home with wonderful memories of the Rail Tour through California.
