Day 1 - Tuesday, Feb. 7 - San Jose, Costa Rica – Today, we have a morning departure from Baton Rouge and fly to San Jose, capital of Costa Rica, located in the beautiful central valley. Overnight at the Crowne Plaza.
Day 2 - Wednesday, Feb. 8 - San Jose/Arenal – This morning, we'll enjoy motor coaching from San Jose to Arenal, an area that is synonymous with the name of Costa Rica's best known volcano that stands at a height of 5,437 feet. Along the way, we'll visit the Agriculture Monument to Juan Santamaria and the famous Mango Park. We will also stop for a tour of the Doka Estate Coffee, where we'll learn about traditional coffee growing methods. After lunch at a local restaurant, we travel on to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, an area of almost 3 miles of walking trails, 5 waterfalls and the largest animal and aviary sanctuary in Costa Rica with over 100 species of animals and 40 species of birds. We overnight at Arenal Kioro, a luxury hotel located just ten minutes from the town of La Fortuna. (B, L) Day 3 - Thursday, Feb. 9 - Arenal – This morning, we'll enjoy an ecological walk and tour focused on finding sloths where we can enjoy them most - in their natural habitat. We'll also enjoy the Ecogarden Ecological Park where we will experience a great variety of plants, birds, frogs, turtles, alligators with wonderful surprises along the way that only nature can provide. This afternoon, we visit the Tabacon Hot Springs, Costa Rica's largest network of naturally flowing thermal mineral springs. With temperatures ranging from 72 to 105 degrees (F), these provide the perfect combination of high volume and mineral content. Overnight at Arenal Kioro. (B, L, D) Day 4 - Friday, Feb. 10 - Palo Verde National Park -Tamarindo – We depart after breakfast with a private guide and driver on the way to Guanacaste Province. We visit the Palo Verde National Park, where we enjoy a boat tour down the Tempisque River known for its spectacular wetlands, a large variety of aquatic plants and species of trees and wildlife. After an included lunch, we travel on to the Guanacaste beaches and overnight in Tamarindo Diria Hotel, where we will be for the next 4 nights. (B, L) Day 5, Saturday, Feb 11 – Tamarindo - Today you have your choice of activities such as ziplining or enjoying the beach and area shopping. Later we enjoy a catamaran ride, snorkeling for those who wish, and enjoy an included lunch. Overnight in Tamarindo. (B, L) Day 6, Sunday, Feb 12– Tamarindo – Day at leisure with an opportunity to explore the town, shop or just relax at your hotel, soaking up the beautiful scenery and beaches of Costa Rica. Optional tours are available at extra cost. (B) Day 7, Monday, Feb 13 – Tamarindo – We enjoy one more day of exploring before we get ready to head home. This evening, we enjoy a farewell dinner at our hotel. (B, D) Day 8, Tuesday, Feb 14 - Today, we make our way to the Guanacaste Airport where we will fly home with wonderful memories and stories to share from our time in Costa Rica. Pura Vida! |
