- Day 1, Sunday, Feb. 16- San Antonio, TX - Early departure from Zachary and Baton Rouge to San Antonio, with routing through Lafayette. This evening, we’ll take an evening riverboat tour of downtown. Overnight in San Antonio.
Day 2, Monday, Feb. 17- Fort Stockton, TX -This morning we tour the historic King William neighborhood, founded in the mid-19th century. Developed in the 1860s by German immigrants along the San Antonio River, this is one of Texas’s oldest historic districts, and features well-preserved Victorian and Italianate mansions. We’ll end the morning with a guided tour of Villa Finale, a grand Italianate mansion restored by a key preservationist who saved many of the district’s historic properties. After lunch, we travel to Fort Stockton for overnight. (B, L)
Day 3, Tuesday, Feb. 18- Las Cruces, NM - Morning visit to Fort Davis, home of the Buffalo Soldiers, the U.S. Army’s first peacetime Black regiment. Learn about its role in protecting westward travelers. Continue through El Paso and overnight in Las Cruces. (B)
Day 4, Wednesday, Feb. 19- Tucson - Today we make our way to Tucson. On the way, we’ll drive through Texas Canyon, known for its scenic views and dramatic rock formations. Tonight, we'll check into our Tucson-area hotel for a 2-night stay. Dinner on your own. (B)
Day 5- Thursday, Feb. 20- Tucson - Experience a full day in Tombstone, the “Town Too Tough To Die!”. Enjoy a guided city tour, watch the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, have lunch at the Crystal Palace Saloon, and visit the Bird Cage Theatre, site of the longest running poker game in history. Free time this afternoon to explore Tombstone on your own. Overnight in Tucson. (B, L)
Day 6, Friday, Feb. 21- Phoenix - Today we visit the Musical Instrument Museum, the largest of its kind, and the Desert Botanical Gardens with its diverse plant species. Tonight, we check into the Drury Inn for three nights. (B, D)
Day 7, Saturday, Feb. 22- Phoenix We start the day with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and desert laboratory, Taliesin West, and then we move on to a tour of the Queen Creek Olive Mill where we’ll learn how extra virgin olive oil is made, how to use it in the kitchen and the proper way to taste it. This evening is free for your own plans. Enjoy the Drury’s 5:30pm Kickback or dinner on your own. (B)
Day 8, Sunday, Feb. 23- Phoenix - Today will be a full day as our local guide shows us the Goldfield ghost town, and takes us on an underground tour of the Goldfield Mine. Ride on the Superstition Scenic Narrow Gauge Railroad, and finish the day with an included dinner at Rustler’s Rooste, a Western-themed steakhouse located on a hilltop in Phoenix, offering stunning city and mountain views. Overnight in Phoenix. (B, D)
Day 9, Monday, Feb. 24- El Paso - We begin our journey home with a stop at the beautiful Catalina State Park, located at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains, and where you can enjoy a short easy hike, or enjoy looking at the exhibits displayed in the Visitor Center. We then travel to El Paso where we'll have an included dinner and where we will overnight. (B, D)
Day 10, Tuesday, Feb. 25- Fort Stockton, TX - Today we travel to historic Fort Stockton, where we learn about the fort’s history and see artifacts at the museum. We will also see the Old Pecos County Jail, the old Fort Cemetery and the Annie Riggs Memorial Museum. Overnight in Fort Stockton. (B)
Day 11, Wednesday, Feb. 26- Brenham, TX - Today we have lunch at the world-renowned Texas Barbecue - Salt Lick BBQ then on to the Blue Bell Creamery for ice cream! Overnight in Brenham (B,L)
Day 12, Thursday, Feb. 27- Home - We arrive home today with wonderful memories!(B)
